Jason's POV
*Swish* *BOOM!* Jason flinched as the bomb hit the ground. He knew that this war had to be fought, but he still didn't think bombing the general public was the best way to go. He heard the wails of the injured, the crash of buildings, and the most agonizing sound of all, the cries of children. He sighed and went to his desk fridge, and pulled out a can of Coke. The whole office drank a juice made out of carrots, lettuce, and pineapple, but he simply couldn't stand the disgusting mixture. He closed the door and sat at his desk, listening to the chaos outside.
Why? He was startled at the sudden and strange question that popped into his head. But it was a good one, one worthy of pondering. Why had this war begun? He tried to think all the way back, but the war had been so traumatizing at first, his mind had blurred it out.
"Computer, search up before the War of Tears, please." The holographic screen popped up instantly.
He bent over to get a better look at the screen. he was startled at his findings. Only 3 search results? When HAD this war really begun? He clicked on the first one, and it was revealed 4 pictures. One was of kids riding bicycles along a paved path, and the idea seemed vaguely familiar. The caption read, "biking". The second picture displayed a large table, much like the one in the Dining Hall, with a lavish feast set upon it. The caption read "Thanksgiving". He stared at the picture quizzically. The only new thing that he could recognize was that the people sitting at the table were laughing. LAUGHING. The last Jason had ever done that was 15 years ago, when Miles had fallen on top of the dog. Miles, his son, had been taken away from him at the beginning of the war. It had been the worst day of his life. Jason blinked back tears. The final two pictures were just pictures of the destruction of the Capitol and some ruined buildings.
The second link was just an advertisement to join the Resistance, which he simply closed. The Resistance would have no part in his life, not after they took Miles. The last link showed a timeline of the war, and after scanning it, he saw that the war began in 2008.
"That was 20 years ago! There is no way this war had been going on for 20 years. The human race should've been dead by now!" he said in disbelief.
As he clicked on, Jason found an article titled "The Source of the War." He scanned the lengthy article, but the final sentence caught his eye.
"So in conclusion, the cause of this war has been Earth?" he asked himself out loud.
Then he heard a loud bang in the hallway, followed by a series of screams. They had done it.
The Resistance had fought back. For the first time in 7 years.
Have a happy Veterans Day everyone!
Also, I am having trouble publishing the draft of this story on Wattpad, can anyone help?
Coolio. Kinda reminds me of "The Giver," "The Hunger Games," and "The Maze Runner" all at once.
